Guideline 3.1.5 - Crypto: Wallet App from Individual Developer Account

High SeverityHard FixTypical Fix: 1-3 days0 Reports
Also known as:Cryptocurrency app submitted from individual developer accountWallet app requires organization developer accountCrypto trading app must be from verified organizationIndividual developer account not permitted for financial/crypto apps

Our Take

Apple is rejecting your cryptocurrency wallet app because it was submitted from an individual developer account rather than an organization account. Apple requires that cryptocurrency apps -- particularly wallets, exchanges, and trading platforms -- be submitted by an organization (company, LLC, etc.) that can be verified, not by an individual developer. This policy exists because cryptocurrency apps handle financial transactions and digital assets that may have significant monetary value. Apple wants to ensure there is a verifiable legal entity behind the app that can be held accountable. An individual developer account does not provide the same level of accountability. The fix requires enrolling in the Apple Developer Program as an organization, which means having a D-U-N-S number and going through Apple's organization verification process. This can take 1-2 weeks if you do not already have a D-U-N-S number.

Resolution Guide

01

Obtain a D-U-N-S number

If your business entity does not have one, apply through Dun & Bradstreet (free through Apple's lookup tool). This can take up to 2 weeks.

02

Enroll as an organization

In your Apple Developer account, convert your membership to an organization account or create a new organization enrollment. You need your D-U-N-S number, legal entity name, and business address.

03

Transfer the app

If you built the app under your individual account, transfer the app to the new organization account using App Store Connect's app transfer feature.

04

Resubmit

Submit the app from the organization account. No code changes needed -- this is purely an account-level requirement.

05

Update any certificates and profiles

After transferring, update your code signing certificates and provisioning profiles to use the organization team.

Prevention

  • If you plan to build financial or cryptocurrency apps, start with an organization developer account
  • Register your business entity and obtain a D-U-N-S number before beginning development
  • This requirement also applies to other financial apps (trading, lending, banking)

Apps that facilitate cryptocurrency transactions must be submitted by a developer enrolled as an organization, not as an individual.
